Legislative update: Pro-jobs bill eliminating “suspicion tax” passes U.S. House

On October 27, the U.S. House of Representatives approved bipartisan legislation that will remove an unnecessary “suspicion tax” on small businesses and employers who accept government contracts.  I both cosponsored and voted for this bill.

The 3% withholding of certain payments to contractors doing business with local, state and federal governments was initially intended to ensure tax compliance, but would essentially amount to an interest free loan to government by businesses.  This extra cost would tie up cash and make it harder for employers to grow their operations and hire.

President Obama has pledged to support this jobs bill if the U.S. Senate passes it and sends it to his desk.
