U.S. Congresswoman Herrera Beutler
Helping schools, forests and jobs
Last week, Lewis County Commissioner Lee Grose traveled to Capitol Hill to talk about the need for better management of federal forest lands. During his testimony to members of the U.S. House Natural Resources Committee, Commissioner Grose discussed from a Lewis County perspective the need to make our forests healthier, which in turn supports local schools and a healthy economy. It was my honor to introduce Commissioner Grose and the committee for this important hearing. Read more about this event here.
Tax dollars for CRC: where will they go?
Did you know the Columbia River Crossing's spending plan includes a museum, a TriMet office, and a project 60 miles east of I-5? These and other expenses add up to hundreds of millions of dollars. Please read about my effort to understand why Southwest Washington tax dollars and tolls should be spent on these items. The full text of the letter I sent to Nancy Boyd, Director of the CRC project, can be found here.
Pearson Air Museum bill set for March 14 hearing
On March 14th, my bill to resolve the Pearson Air Museum dispute will go before the House Natural Resources Committee for a congressional hearing. All along, I’ve pledged to help restore Pearson Air Museum as an accessible community resource. There is still time for the Park Service to alter its approach and start compromising with our community, but I intend to shepherd this legislation through congress as quickly as I can. For hearing details, live and archived video footage of the hearing, please go here.
