Advancing military technology, growing jobs in Southwest Washington

It was a privilege to attend the Vigor keel laying for the first Maneuver Support Vessel (Light) in Vancouver recently. I was lucky enough to be able to weld my name on the vessel, too!

From my position on the House Appropriations Committee, I was happy to lead the effort to support this project. The building of this new vessel begins a new era of shipbuilding for the Aluminum Fabrication facility in Vancouver. Vigor expects the site to employ up to 400 workers by 2023, bringing good jobs to Southwest Washington.

Our U.S. Army should be fully equipped to handle every threat and mission, and this advance in technology will help our military on land and sea maintain a sharp, defensive edge. I am proud to support this project and will continue to advocate for more jobs in Southwest Washington.

Sustainably harvesting Southwest Washington's natural resources
We have a rich abundance of natural resources in our public forests that benefits rural communities, tribal residents and visitors to our region.

I'm pleased to introduce the Special Forest Products Program Reauthorization with my Democrat colleague, Congressman Kurt Schrader, that will allow folks in Southwest Washington to responsibly, and sustainably, harvest products like huckleberries and firewood from our forests for their enjoyment and benefit.

ASSISTING
SOUTHWEST
WASHINGTON
RESIDENTS
Mr. Martin Siegler of Vancouver filed his taxes in March, but still had not received his refund several months later. When Mr. Siegler reached out to the IRS, he was told they needed more time to proceed with his refund. Once we reached out on Mr. Siegler’s behalf, we were able to confirm that his refund would be released the very next week.

Removing barriers for affordable housing
We are facing a national housing crisis that has hit Southwest Washington particularly hard - a surging number of people are facing homelessness, and everywhere I go families talk about the lack of affordable housing options.

I'm proud to introduce a bipartisan bill with my colleagues in the House that encourages communities to prioritize increasing housing supply and affordability.
