The U.S. is quickly approaching the August 2 deadline to raise our nation’s $14.294 trillion credit limit, or “debt ceiling.” I do not want August 2 to pass without a solution.
Earlier this week, I voted for and the U.S. passed a bipartisan “Cut, Cap and Balance” plan that would have cut federal spending, capped future spending rates and required the federal government to balance its budget going forward. Unfortunately, the Senate narrowly rejected this plan on Friday.
I remain optimistic that a deal can be reached by August 2. We need our leaders in Congress and the White House to put solutions before politics. I will continue to work for a plan that brings Washington, DC spending under control, protects Social Security and Medicare, and does not raise taxes on Southwest Washington families and businesses.
