Today, Jaime Herrera Beutler announced the winners of Southwest Washington’s Congressional Art Competition. The contest’s top finisher – Maria Schaljo from the Vancouver School of the Arts and Academics – is invited to travel to Washington, D.C. in June when her oil painting “Submerged” will be hung in the U.S. Capitol Building.

On Monday, May 16, Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler’s office will be hosting a Congressional Art Competition Showcase at North Bank Artists Gallery in Vancouver.

“Once again I was blown away by the talent and creativity of our young artists in Southwest Washington,” said Herrera Beutler. “The judges had a very difficult decision to make among all of our submissions.  I invite everyone in the community to come enjoy their work on Monday, May 16.”

Congressional Art Competition Showcase, 2016

WHO:
1st Place: Maria Schaljo from the Vancouver School of the Arts and Academics and her oil painting “Submerged”

2nd Place: Sara Litt from Mountain View High School and her photo “Long Beach Washington”
3rd Place: Storm Reid from Kelso High School with an ink drawing “Lost in Frustration”
All participants are invited to display their artwork.
