Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler today extended an invitation to high school students across Southwest Washington to participate in the 2015 Congressional App Challenge.

The Congressional App Challenge is open to all high school students, grades 9-12, who either reside or attend school in Southwest Washington’s 3rd Congressional District. Student submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges, made up of leaders within the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields, appointed by Jaime. The winner or winners of the competition will have their app showcased at House.Gov along with winners from each congressional district.

“It’s my hope that by participating in Congressional App Challenge, this region’s students – tomorrow’s business leaders – will sharpen their ability to apply creativity and innovation within the critical fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” said Jaime. “As we look to the future, STEM skills will continue to be necessary skills in the workforce. I hope this challenge will inspire and open doors for students to consider careers in the STEM fields.”

Students entering the competition must submit their app’s source code online by the January 15, 2016 9:00 pm (PST) deadline, as well as provide a YouTube video demo explaining their app and what they learned through this competition process.

For complete details and guidelines, students and education leaders should call Jaime’s office at (360) 695-6292 or visit JHB.House.Gov.
