Jaime meets with Jim Neva, former Port of Ilwaco manager, before the REFI Act receives a congressional hearing
Jaime Herrera Beutler’s bipartisan fishing jobs bill picked up steam in congress after receiving a hearing in the House Natural Resources Committee yesterday.
The House Natural Resources Committee’s Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans and Insular Affairs heard testimony in favor of the Revitalizing the Economy of Fisheries in the Pacific Act, or REFI Act, that would provide relief to the West Coast groundfish fishery that supports 3,000 jobs.
“My bill to support coastal economies all along the West Coast gained critical momentum yesterday,” said Jaime. “I’m optimistic that with the support demonstrated by House Republicans and Democrats during the hearing, and with Senator Cantwell’s efforts in the Senate, we’ll be able to continue advancing this bill to provide flexibility and fairness for these fishing jobs.”
