Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler announced passage of her amendment to restore the Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund to its current level of funding in the FY15 Appropriations Bill. Jaime offered an amendment today restoring these critical funds to $65 million after the President’s budget request proposed slashing funding to the PCSRF by more than 23%.

The Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund (PCSRF) – which was established in 2000 – provides critical funding for recovery and sustainability projects to improve wild salmon and steelhead habitats in Oregon, Washington, California, Alaska, Idaho, and Nevada. Since the program's inception, over 11,800 PCSRF projects have been implemented, providing fish passage and restoring wetlands – making important contributions to the health and recovery of these species.

Salmon and steelhead have a historical significance to our region and are vital to the livelihood of coastal communities, tribes, and fisherman throughout the West,” Jaime said today speaking to the committee, “These funds increase economic activity both on and off the water. This means jobs – blue collar, hardworking job’s.”

The bill is set to come before the full house by the end of May and will then be considered by the Senate before the bill becomes law.
